In the recent past, The midfield department has been Arsenal’s achiles heel. The club has been lacking personel in the middle of the park with Granit Xhaka being handed a 4 match ban due to his second straight red card of the season, both of which were given to him by Jonathan Moss during their home win over Swansea City and the rollercoaster away victory over burnley at Turf Moor.
Carzola is also sidelined with a long term Achilles injury which saw him go under the knife and as a result got sidelined for majority of the season. Ramsey the Rambo is also another midfield culprit missing in action due to a short term injury.
The shortage of personnel in the midfield has seen Mr.versitile Oxlade the Ox shift to the midfield alongside Coquelin Francis the Coq. The partnership of Coq and Ox has seen the club win only one of their last 3 games. The absence of a midfield bruiser was laid bare for all to see when the Gunners were bullied into subjugation by the physically imposing midfielders in Capoue and Matic, two matches in which Arsenal Fc lost embarrassingly. The chemistry and the movement of the new midfield partnership in Ox and Coq has clearly not been upto scratch.
Return of Mohamed Elneny The Pharaoh might give a timely shot in the arm to arsene wenger’s side at a time when the fight for Champions League places has gone into overdrive. Arsenal boss confirmed that the AFCON finalist will be part of the squad that will face the Hull Tigers in the early kick off at the Emirates on sartuday. During his press pre-match press conference, Wenger said ” From last Sartuday we have Elneny back in the squad, he ( Elneny) trained yesterday with the team.He is fully focus and as always he is a player with a great mentality. He is disappointed that Egypt lost in the finals but we had a quality session yesterday.” The 24 year old Egypt international has been out of league action for over 6 week due to the AFCON tournament which was held in Gabon. He gave his side the opening goal in the finals though he eventually suffered a heartbreak as The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon won 2-1 lifting the tournament’s trophy.
The return of the 24 year old might see him being named in the 18 man squad to face the Tigers who have been enjoying a renaissance of sorts under new manager Marcos Silva.
